Stories from the Gulf Coast Rail Trip

On February 18 & 19, 2016, over 300 people rode the Gulf Coast Inspection train from New Orleans, Louisiana to Jacksonville, Florida as part of an ongoing effort to restore passenger rail service along the Gulf Coast, which was disrupted by Hurricane Katrina a decade ago and never resumed after the 2005 storm. The Inspection Trip held on February 18-19th, 2016 offered participants unparalleled perspective on the opportunity of intercity passenger rail along the Gulf Coast.

The goal of the trip was to examine the existing infrastructure and better understand the economic, cultural and mobility opportunities that intercity passenger rail provides. The trip included elected officials, industry representatives, community leaders and federal stakeholders.
