2021 Federal Railroad Administration Grant Awards: Station Area Construction

In September 2021,  Southern Rail Commission awarded new grant funding from the Federal Railroad Administration to the cities of Gulfport, Miss. Bay St. Louis, Miss., Pascagoula, Miss., and Birmingham, Ala. to complete construction and enhance accessibility for each of their local passenger train stations. The grant funding allows for investments in existing station rail facilities that ensure safe access and better connectivity to and from the station, including amenities such as lighting, sidewalks, parking areas and surrounding area development, which will improve ridership potential and expand the economic opportunity that comes with station redevelopment.

2016 Federal Railroad Administration Grant Awards: Station Area Planning

In 2016 the SRC announced the allocations for more than $2 million in funding through the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to ten communities in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, that are planning for restored and improved passenger rail service.

A total of ten grants were awarded to the following communities for station-area planning and construction projects to ensure safe access and better connectivity to and from the station, improved convenience for riders, updated facilities, and leveraged economic opportunity that comes with station redevelopment:
